Bernalillo County's new Animal Care and Resource Center is now open to better serve the public with animal rescue and adoptions, educational and training classes for people and animals, spay and neuter programs, and support services.

master naturalist registration open
Bernalillo County Open Space is accepting applications for the 2019 Master Naturalist Program, held from June through August. Applications are due by March 31.

On March 21, 2019, the Bernalillo County Fire Department dedicated two new fire engines at a traditional push-in ceremony at county fire station 32. The engines are state-of-the-art with the latest in safety technology including the clean cab concept which allows firefighters to stow their gear during fire calls keeping fire personnel free of harmful cancer-causing carcinogens which may be attached to bunker gear and equipment.

For so many individuals living with addiction or a mental health condition, peer support is key to their recovery and wellness. That’s why Bernalillo County’s Behavioral Health Initiative is opening four Peer Drop-In Centers across the county.

Bernalillo County Treasurer Nancy M. Bearce released the first installment of a video series highlighting key functions of the Treasurer’s Office. The goal of the videos is to educate the public on what the county treasurer does and the services available to all property taxpayers.

On March 4, 2019, Bernalillo County Treasurer Nancy Bearce announced the results of her annual internal audit. For the third year in a row, the Treasurer’s Office received a clean audit. The audit was performed by REDW, a New Mexico based CPA and auditing firm.

On Feb. 28 Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca and Commissioner Charlene Pyskoty joined Mayor Tim Keller and other city and county officials and shelter managers to cement a new partnership that keeps the Westside Emergency Housing Center open year-round and increases access to services.
south valley pride day nominations open
Bernalillo County has opened nominations for this year’s South Valley Pride Day Outstanding Citizens Award, which honors community members for their dedication and community service to improve County Commission District 2. Recipients of the award will be celebrated as outstanding role models during the annual parade and honored at a formal ceremony April 28 at Westside Community Center as part of South Valley Pride Day 2019.
