Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation is again hosting its popular and family-friendly series Movies in the Park this summer from June 2 through Aug. 11 at various locations throughout the county.

County Pools and Spray Parks Are Now Open

Bernalillo County swimming pools and the Alameda Spray Park are now open. The South Valley Pool and Splash Pad will not open until sometime in July as construction continues on the splash pad and bath house.

Bernalillo County has again kept its triple-A ratings on its general obligation bonds, the highest possible given by Moody’s, Fitch and Standard and Poor’s, the nation’s top three credit rating agencies. Bond ratings are critical because a higher rating means lower interest rates for the county when selling bonds to finance voter-approved projects.

All of Bernalillo County’s East Mountain open space properties will be closed due to the high fire danger starting Friday, June 15, at 8 a.m. Ojito de San Antonio, Sandia Knolls, Sedillo Ridge and Sabino Canyon Open Space Properties will be closed until further notice. Carlito Springs was already closed for renovations. The closures will remain in effect until the forest receives a significant amount of moisture and the fire danger level decreases substantially.

Property owners with unpaid REAL property taxes, who currently owe for the 2015 tax year, have until June 29 before their accounts are turned over to the State of New Mexico for collections, and risk losing their properties to auction to pay their debts.

The Bernalillo County Commission has confirmed the appointment of Greg Perez as the next chief of the Bernalillo County Fire Department (BCFD).

At the June 12, 2018 commission meeting, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners approved a ban on certain fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the county - which is outside the city limits of Albuquerque. The ban is effective immediately and will remain in force through July 12, 2018.

The Bernalillo County Commission has approved a $270,000 Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) grant for New Mexico owned and operated LAVU Inc. LAVU plans to relocate to a new facility and expand its operation on 3rd Street, NW.
hunt for missing inmate continues
The Metropolitan Detention Center and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to work with our law enforcement partners in the search for mistakenly released MDC inmate Duwin Perez-Cordova. He was last seen at the intersection of 4th St and Roma Ave NW. He should not be approached by the public. Anyone with information about Perez-Cordova’s whereabouts is asked to call the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department at 798-7000 or 911.
summer lunch program honored
Bernalillo County’s 2018 Summer Lunch Program is being honored for 45 years of participation in the summer food program in New Mexico. BernCo continues its program at 52 locations in the county, offering free healthy meals to children and teens at churches, parks, community centers, apartment complexes and a health clinic. No registration is required for the program which began May 31 and runs through Aug. 3.

Bernco Pools
Bernalillo County swimming pools and the Alameda Spray Park are now open! Three of the county’s four pools, plus the spray park will open for the season providing a safe and enjoyable way to beat the New Mexico heat.

The fire danger across Bernalillo County is expected to be very high due to extreme drought with the fire season starting earlier than normal. So the BernCo Commission voted on April 10, 2018, to ban the use of open fires, campfires, and smoking in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County for the next 180 days.

  • Join Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation for Teen 3-on-3 Basketball on Friday nights starting June 8. Participants must attend the 30-minute life skills workshop before playing basketball. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. in the gym. This program is free of charge, but participants must register.

The start time is tentative as movies will always start at sundown (weather permitting). We recommend arriving a little early to secure a good seat! Food trucks will be available on site, but you can bring your own food and drink as well. Families are also encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to better enjoy the show!
