Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue Seeking International Accreditation


Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue, under the leadership of Fire Chief Greg Perez, is working to achieve the highest level of professionalism and efficiency on behalf of those it serves.

Recently, the department began an international accreditation process facilitated by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). CPSE is an independent, nonprofit organization with the mission of leading fire departments to excellence through the continuous quality improvement process of accreditation, credentialing, education, and promoting appropriate best-practice standards. The accreditation demonstrates Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue’s commitment to continuous improvement and accountability to the citizens of the Bernalillo County.

Currently, there are only 270 fire departments worldwide that are internationally accredited by the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Only one other fire department in the State of New Mexico has achieved accredited agency status. Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue hopes to join the ranks of the elite fire departments worldwide with this accreditation.

This process will take approximately two years to complete, and will include a comprehensive review of all of the services provided by Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue. The fire department will reach out to the community throughout this process in an effort to ensure that the future direction of the department is in line with the needs of the community.
