Trace Family Roots with Free Online Genealogy Classes

The Office of Senior and Social Services will host free online beginner genealogy classes in November and December. The four-part genealogy series kicks off Monday, Nov. 23 beginning at 10:30 a.m., with subsequent classes on Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and 14. Accomplished genealogist Victoria L. Sullivan, will instruct and inspire students in the study of family origins. Sullivan is a retired reference librarian with nearly 30 years of experience in researching genealogy. Classes are 1-1/2 hours and are open to all residents of Bernalillo County. All participants are encouraged to share this journey with a family member.


Bringing Generations Together Thru Genealogy is designed to help the new and budding family historian. Students will learn how to:

  • Trace ancestors, find resources and software tools to aid in discovery;
  • Learn ways to organize and document your family tree;
  • Tap into online research and local sources unique to Bernalillo County and New Mexico;
  • Learn about Census documents and DNA in genealogy; and
  • Enjoy the personal reward and satisfaction in discovering your lineage and family origins.


The free four-part series via Zoom is:

Mondays: Nov. 23 and 30 and Dec. 7 and 14 - 10:30 a.m. to noon
