County Commission Approves New Youth Services Center Contract

The Bernalillo County Commission has approved a new contract with the Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the union representing Bernalillo County’s Youth Services Center employees (AFSCME 18, Local 1536 YSC).

Under the new agreement, AFSCME represented employees will receive a one-time payout of $2,000.

Union employees received salary adjustments last year following a study on similar positions, statewide. That pay scale is included under the new agreement.

Additionally the contract includes an academic incentive pay for employees with a bachelor’s degree or higher to received $45 per month.

“I appreciate the hard work of our YSC employees represented by AFSCME 18, Local 1536 union,” says Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca. “These detention facility employees work with our youth and their dedication is greatly appreciated in Bernalillo County.”

The agreement also allows for a staffing analysis to be conducted with regard to the possibility of a four, 10-hour day workweek.

The commission approved the contract on a 5 to 0 vote.
