County Assessor

The Customer Service Department is usually the first contact you have with our office.

Whether it be a phone call or an in-person visit, our staff is here to assist you. Customer Service also provides support to every department within the Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office. We also provide assistance and support to other county departments, government agencies, private sector and the general public. Here are some of the items for which we are responsible:

  • Tax savings programs. Process all exemption requests for head of family/household, veterans, 100 percent disabled veterans, veterans' surviving spouses, veterans organizations (i.e., American Legion) and other exempt entities (federal, state, county, city).
  • Code and process all ownership changes from documents of conveyance (warranty deeds, real estate contracts, court orders).
  • Process all owners mailing address changes requested by the property owner in writing, and property (SITUS) address changes verified by the GIS/Mapping Department.
  • Assist property owners with processing information and applications for programs and exemptions available to them (head of family/household, all types of veterans certificates and value freeze).
  • Maintain the multi-line switchboard of all incoming calls to the Assessor’s Office received during regular business hours; helping the customer with questions regarding property ownership, mailing/property addresses and exemptions. All other calls are directed to the appropriate department or staff member.
