DWI Planning Council Seeks New Member

Bernalillo County is soliciting applications to fill a vacancy on the DWI Planning Council. The council makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on prevention, treatment, and law enforcement programs, services and activities designed to reduce the incidence of DWI and decrease the number of alcohol-involved traffic crashes and fatalities in Bernalillo County.

“The DWI Planning Council plays an essential role in advising the commission as we allocate resources to reduce and hopefully eventually eliminate crashes, hardship and suffering caused by impaired drivers,” says Charlene Pyskoty, chair, Bernalillo County Commission. “If you have a background in public health and are concerned about DWI in Bernalillo County, please consider serving on the council.”

The DWI Planning Council consists of 12 members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The term of each member is three years with members selected from the following categories: Community Substance Abuse Treatment, School Representative, Commission District Representatives, Liquor Industry Representative, Public Health, Community Traffic Safety, Native American Community and Behavioral Health. The current vacancy is for a member with experience in public health.

Meetings are held at 12:30 p.m. on the last Thursday of every other month. The next meeting is Thursday, June 10, 2021. For more information and to apply online, visit the DWI Planning Council homepage. You may also contact Boards and Commissions Liaison Julie Anne Baca (jubaca@bernco.gov) with questions and/or for assistance with the online application.
