Youth Services Center

The Bernalillo County Youth Services Center has received positive acclaim by the Student Nutrition Bureau for its successful implementation of the USDA’s new youth nutrition standards.

And in 2015, the YSC meal program commenced with the integration of organic fruits and vegetables into its regular menus.  Residents receive three nutritionally balanced meals and two snacks daily, all of which is reviewed and approved by a Licensed Nutritionist. Modifications for religious or medical reasons are accommodated.

Nutrition is also an active part of daily programing provided by staff and teachers alike through a comprehensive wellness plan. In addition to structured physical activities, students receive regular classroom instruction on health and wellness. Students also participate in experiential learning activities with food from the in-house garden and from locally grown farms. They also receive the benefit of expert enrichment from a national Food Corps. Volunteer on a weekly basis.
